Bonnee Crawford Editing will never use artificial intelligence (AI) at any point in the editing process.
As AI continues to creep into all corners of our lives, I have started receiving an important question from writers: Will you use AI to edit my work?
The answer now and always is no. I never have and never will use AI at any point in the editing process.
In both my work and my personal life, I do what I can to steer clear of AI tools. I block AI “features” wherever possible, switch them off when I cannot exclude them altogether, and refuse to engage with them when the way they have been designed pushes them to the foreground again and again (Google, I’m looking at you).
I recognise that AI has been integrated into some technologies in ways that make it unavoidable, but I see no need to use it while editing.
AI-generated writing
Generative AI and LLMs in particular are rife with ethical issues, from stealing and regurgitating copyrighted content and the environmental impact of data centres, to aiding mass shooters and contributing to child abuse material.
I do not believe any level of convenience justifies these issues.
There is more I could say about my stance on AI-generated writing, but this page would become very long, so I will leave it at that.
Needless to say, I will not edit content that has been wholly or partly AI-generated.
